Dear HIS Lower School Families,
What a wonderful way to finish the week! Saturday afternoon’s Back to School BBQ brought together a fantastic crowd of students, families, and staff, and we were fortunate to have beautiful weather for the occasion. It was great to see our community enjoying the food, games, activities, and simply spending time together outside of the regular school day.
A very special thank you to Ms. Andrea Stubbs and our PAFA volunteers for the tremendous work that went into bringing such an amazing event together. Thank you as well to all of our vendors and to the many staff and parent volunteers who helped run activities throughout the field and school grounds. Events like this are only possible because so many people are willing to contribute their time and energy, and they are an important part of what makes HIS such a welcoming community.
This week also marks the beginning of our Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs). CCAs provide students with opportunities to try something new, develop their interests, build friendships, and learn alongside different teachers and peers.
For our new ECE families, our ECE Leadership Team will host a Parent Welcome Afternoon this Thursday, September 10, from 2:00–3:00 PM. Today's newsletter also includes information about our ECE donation drive, through which families can contribute clean, safe, gently used household materials that can be given a second life in children’s play and learning.
A reminder that this is a four-day week for students. There will be no school on Friday, September 11, as our teachers and staff participate in professional in-service learning. Thursday will therefore be our final student day of the week. To help us finish on a tasty note, our Food Market will move to Thursday afternoon, from 1:30–4:30 PM. We hope you can stop by, enjoy some wonderful treats, and begin the children’s long weekend together.
Finally, thank you to everyone who joined us for Back-to-School Night last Thursday. We greatly appreciated the strong turnout and the opportunity for families to connect with teachers and learn more about the learning experiences, routines, expectations, and opportunities ahead. The grade-level presentations are available through the links in this week’s newsletter for anyone who would like to revisit them.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support. I hope everyone has a wonderful four-day school week and an enjoyable long weekend ahead.
Take care,
Jeff

New ECE Parent Welcome Afternoon: Thursday 2PM
This coming Thursday, we would like to invite all new ECE families to join the ECE Leadership Team for an opportunity to meet some of the other new families and learn more about what it means to be an ECE parent, along with how we can support each other during some of your child's most important years in their development.
The session will run from 2:00PM to 3:00PM, Thursday, September 10, on the second floor of the ECE building.
To help us prepare for refreshments and seating, please let us know if you will be attending by scanning the QR code on the poster or following this link.
